I was reading through some of the news today and spotted that its the 20th anniversary of the Marchioness disaster on the River Thames.
The 1989 tradgedy itself is fascinating and over the years I've met people who were personally affected by it. I don't have one of those links, but it did strike a place in my mind.
I was on my first inter continental holiday with the family. My parents managed to surprise us kids with a flight to Dallas to stay with some friends. During that trip, the only news from the UK to filter through was that of the disaster on the Thames.
The problem I have is that when I look back at the facts, things don't fit. For some reason I associate the Poll Tax riots with that holiday as well, when they occured a year later (1990). We also got there on a British Caledonion flight, but BCal ceased to be in 1988.
So my memory is playing tricks on me. I must discuss this with my folks and see when we actually went!
