Its taken me long enough. I have been following rugby for years now, but have never gotten around to watching a match at Twickenham!
Thanks to my friend Phil who is a regular at London Irish matches, I was invited to go to the London Double Header with his mates, all of whom are also Irish fans!
Thing is, I follow Wasps! I wondered if it would feel awkward sat in a block of opposition team supporters, but once again I under estimated how well behaved a rugby crowd is. I don't think for a minute you would have a comfortable time as a football supporter of one team sat in amongst the others fans!
So I had a great time. Even though Wasps were a bit all over the place leading to a pretty comprehensive win for Irish. No one rubbed it in, everyone cheered everyone else. It was all very nice.
I wonder why football is so much worse? The adage 'Rugby is a thugs game played by gentlemen and football is a gentleman's game played by thugs' seems to be more appropriate for the audience rather than the players. Although I'm saving a rant on football players for another day!
So all in all it was a lovely day. Even when the weather was rubbish and my team lost that didn't get in the way of a great time.
I'll save my pennies and have another trip to Twickenham sometime soon I think!
