There has been a death in the family.
I suppose I've been expecting this to happen for many years now, but in the last few months he has looked rather poorly. I did wonder if I should get someone to see him, but I've never heard of people taking their goldfish down to the Vet.
Number 3 has been with me since 1999, I think. He has travelled with his chums 2 and 1 from house to house as I've moved around the country. He even survived a month or so without power when the tank got stuck in a house I had to be evacuated from (now thats a long story... probably mentioned in past blogs!) and a transit bag split while driving from London to Oxfordshire!
How long are goldfish supposed to live? It's been many years since he was gold though, he and number 2 are now silver fish really (1 seems to have kept some of his colour!).
The next question is. Do I replace him? Its a big tank for just two fish. However they were less than welcoming to the last fish to be introduced to the tank five years ago. The three of them pecked the poor thing to death!
While I mull that over... I think tomorrow, I'll have a drink for Number 3.
