This coming weekend is always a highlight of the year for me. It's the
Eurovision Song Contest. A marvel of inter
European politics and bad taste!
So one thing we know is that the UK can't win. The odds are stacked against the old guard nations and the Eastern block nations have cornered the voting. So all there is left, is the obligatory Terry Wogan and Ken Bruce commentary.
I've been listening to the songs, here are my thoughts (up to the point I was losing the will to live!) The score out of ten is how I like them, I gave up trying to guess where songs would come on the night a long time ago.
United Kingdom - Even If, Andy Abrahams - 07/10
- Not bad, very catchy and just my kind of thing... doesn't stand a chance!
Iceland - This is my life, Euroband - 03/10
- pretty bland euro rock!
Sweden - Hero, Charlotte Perrelli - 06/10
- She looks a little like Madonna and its very predictable, but has a catchy chorus.
Switzerland - Era Stupendo, Paolo Meneguzzi - 07/10
- So he is kind of cute, and its interesting its in Italian (but I suppose they do get a choice of three languages!) I kind of like this one.
Montenegro - Zauvijek Volim Te, Stefan Filipovic - 04/10
- Pretty boring song... and he has floppy hair!
Netherlands - Your heart belongs to me, Hind - 05/10
- Now they have got the idea... create something the Mediterranean countries would love, its not very dutch though ;) It is quite catchy though.
France - Divine, Sebastien Tellier - 06/10
- I love this song, not least because the French have done it in English, but its taking the micky enough... great fun.
