Back on dry land!

So narrowboating is a survivable holiday. Just

It was lovely to spend time with the family. It was great to get out in to the country. But it was bloomin cold!

I suppose what I hadn't considered was how slow life really gets on a canal boat. It is the english equivelant of a beach holiday! Without an escape route. I should explain, but I don't do well at beach holidays. I get twitchy and irritable after a day of nothing to do! It's something to do with the heat and a lack of things to do. Books can only hold my attention for so long and one swim is normally enough!

So narrow boating is something similar. You are trapped on a long tube with limited space and no way off unless you moor up! So the first day I developed a bit of cabin fever. If I were on a beach I suppose I would have gone investigating something near by, but there is not such a regular chance when pottering along in the boat.

My solution was to involve myself in driving the boat. Even though the speed was slow, there were plenty of things to keep my interest, and in a lot of ways it was all quite theraputic. It was great watching Dad who was in his element with the whole thing.

I think I would do it again, may be trying to find more things to do on shore might make it more bearable... or maybe with less people on board and more space it would feel a little better.

But still, it was a great holiday.
