Over the last few months, on my journey down to see Alex, i've taken the shorter but slower route.
It has to be one of the prettiest drives. I wind my way along the Wiltshire Downs from Wantage to Swindon via the White Horse at Uffington. I've seen some stunning sun sets and beautiful vistas (plus a lot of dead badgers and pheasants!).
For the last month, the view has been added to, with five huge wind turbines reaching for the sky from a field near Watchfield and Shrivenham. They look fantastic. One by one they were craned in to place and now they stand, still as a dead tree, waiting for someone to release the brake.
On-air, they seem to have been creating ructions. Lots of the locals aren't happy at having their view spoiled.
But I'm pretty sure that all those people like being able to switch lights on at night and keep the fridge running 24/7.
I really beleive that every village and town around the country should have one or two of these graceful giants on the outskirts. I'm sure that would definately make a dent in our carbon emissions!
