Yesterday I was out and about in our Radiocar (its a Peugeot with a whopping great mast on top!) reporting on a set of roadworks near Oxford. The road has desperately needed them for many years but as usual it takes a long time for the budget to come through.
The thing that struck me is the behaviour of commuters waiting to get into the actual lane closures. There was a very ordily queue between two roundabout (The Wovercote and Cutteslowe) with drivers looking resigned to the wait. However running parallel to the main A40 is Sunderland Avenue which gives access to housing along the road. A few cheeky drivers used it to bypass the end of the queue and sneak in right at the front.
Should we get annoyed about this or not? Some of those doing the proper way look very miffed at this, others had a certain resigned face. Maybe asking themselves... why didn't I do that!!!
I'm not sure which camp I fall into, I did, however, not let any of the cheeters in to my bit of the queue. I felt good about that!!!
