It was a great weekend. What's more, my liver survived!
I arrived Saturday lunchtime off BA's Gatwick service.
I'm please I spent the extra £10 flying British Airways, as the flight was much more comfortable than the Ryanair cattle trucks! They also seem to have spent a bit of time on their All Day Deli menu. For once it tasted very nice. Or maybe I was just very hungry.
My mate Keith then met me at Dublin airport. We headed in to the city and dropped bags off at a hotel before going on a wander around. Keith is a local lad, so acted as tour guide (though he would admit his local history was a bit on the approximate side!)
In the evening we hit the town, and met up with some of his friends. The first pub we came across was a tourist mecca with loads of diddly idly music and more hen parties than you can shake a wedding at!
It doesn't surprise me that The English get such a reputation when on holiday. Its the mentallity that says: get as drunk as you possibly can - that causes the problme, though God knows how you solve it. To tell the truth it wasn't really a problem at the pub we visited... but it was only 9pm. The only trouble was the two scarey East End women whe were eyeing Keith and I up. We ran!
We eventually met up with some of Keiths mates at another bar having been blasted down the Liffey by the freezing wind. It was bloody cold!
After a couple of pints we moved on to The Vault and met up with more people. It was a cool venue, using the arches under a railway station much like Heaven in London. Music was R&B and the crowd very mixed. After a few pints, Keith dragged me on to one of Dublins gay venues.
The George is the big gay club / bar and was ram packed full. I now know where all the old men of the area go - it was mildly scarey!!!
The night finished off with a prerequesite kebab!
