Sunday, Keith took me out to meet with mates in the Dublin suburbs.
I always thought that house prices in the UK were extortionate. It seems that it is worse in Ireland.
The cost of buying a house is huge compared with the earnings. How anyone can afford to buy a place is beyond me! Paul, one of Keiths friends is in the middle of moving in to a new build house, in a new town area. The cost for the three bedroom semi was going on for £50,000 more expensive than an equivelant here. Yet still people are able to buy. I wonder if people are just going to end up having 50 year mortgages!
Another problem that seems to be catching everyone out in Dublin is the construction of a new tram system called LUAS (pronounced Lewis!) The trouble is the state the roads are being left in! It reminds me of the trouble caused by the cable companies digging up roads and pavement in the UK a few years back.
Okay so they are a couple of negative things, but above that, the place is buzzing. Its a nice gentle and fun atmosphere. If things happen, they happen. I like that.
That evening Keith and I headed back to his place in the middle of Ireland... called Mountmellick. A long commute, but very pretty countryside!
Ireland is a fab place to visit, but I suppose this goes for everywhere, but it is worth knowing someone there.
